John Goodman Garden District Resident

A great thing about the Garden District is that famous people are charmed by it like any of us are. Chances are pretty good you might see one of the most popular actors in America out walking his dog – John Goodman. That’s right the Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award winner is proud to call the Garden District his home.

He first came down here in 1972 with college buddies and did, well, what most college buddies do when they come to New Orleans. A few years later, he was shooting “Everybody’s All American,” and was hanging out at the legendary Tipitina’s music club. It was there he met  Annabeth, his future wife.  Annabeth is a local girl from Bogalusa and they decided to live in New Orleans to be near her family.

“There is a part of my DNA here,” Goodman told a television interviewer. “It just felt like a place I belonged.”

He frequently drives to Los Angeles for his different gigs. Yes that’s right, he admitted to Jimmy Kimmel that he makes the 28 hour trip all the time.

New Orleans Rum: A Decadent History

The delightful star of classics like ‘Roseanne,’ ‘Big Lebowski,’ ‘Monsters, Inc,’ “Barton Fink” and a gajillion other hits, enjoys living in New Orleans. He is not averse to conversing with visitors passing by. He told Kelly Ripa “I enjoy the energy here, being a Zoo animal.”

Though we won’t divulge his address here, we do show his lovely Italianate mansion on our Garden District stroll, and every now and then he comes out to say “Hello.”

His wife, Annabeth is a clothing designer and owns “Pippen Lane” on Magazine Street featuring awesome duds for little kiddies. Now that their daughter, Molly, is married and off on her own journey, the Goodman’s seem to be content in being part of the infinitely fascinating facets of New Orleans’ Garden District.
